SENTRALEN

It’s been a while since I did a food / restaurant review but it’s been a while that we went for a dinner as well. Especially alone 🙂

There are not many restaurants in Oslo that we like to come back. They are either tooooo expensive or just toooo plain, boring and not exciting. And we like our food experiences to be. In the past couple of years are favorite restaurants were Asian, Japanese and Italian.

How about Norwegian restaurants, you wonder? Well, there are only two on the list; Solsiden and Kolonialen.

Sentralen came to join it.

When Bakica decided to visit us and to look after her grandson, we decided to try something else that we already know. Debeli was familiar with the restaurant but not so much in depth. It surprised us quite nicely.

Situated in the Norway’s oldest savings bank building that has been turned into a unique house of culture, Sentralen has been operating for the past six years.

Described as a casual restaurant where chefs give continental flavours to top-quality Norwegian ingredients, Sentralen offers a seasonal menu.

Although the menu is created with the idea to share the dishes and to socialize more over food, we decided to pick our plates from the a la carte menu.

By the end of the dinner, we were surprised that most of the dishes we ordered were plant based. Meat lovers like us were blown away by the careful combination of the ingredients and seasonings but presentation as well.

It did help that the vegetables were soaked up in Asian spices / sauces so they lost their usual blank flavors.

The chefs also paid attention so the veggies weren’t over cooked which could have ruined the whole set up as easily as said.

The fact that two meat lovers were enjoying their yearly dose of greens as well as the desserts tells a lot about the idea to go a bit over the usual culinary level trying  something new and different. And that is something we truly appreciate.

Passion fruit tart with burned meringue was one of the best desserts lately; a perfect combination of sweet sugary meringue and slightly sour passion fruit flavor
