LIMERICK

The boring Irish rain was following us all the way from Dingle to CurlyWurly Glamping site. It did not come to an end for a second. Not even when we stopped for visit to the small graveyard in Caherelly.

Not even when we opened the car doors and stepped outside right in to a mosquito area. It was so moist, green and humid that dozens of mosquitoes decided it was their place to shine.

But we were there and nothing could have stopped us. We drove all the way through rain and narrow roads to a final resting place of Dolores O’Riordan musician, songwriter and lead singer of The Cranberries.

Known for her mezzo-soprano voice and strong Limerick accent, O’Riordan tragically passed away few years ago.

She was buried together with her father close to where she was born and lived.

Listening to her songs that makes your body shiver we were ready for Limerick.

After several towns, this one was actually a city. A city with big car lanes, shopping centers and tons of people on the street.

No wonder, it’s the fourth-most populous city on the island of Ireland, with a population of little over 100 000 people.

Located on the River Shannon, it has a long and complicated history, like most of the Irish places. But we were not there for history.

13th century St John’s Castle
Sylvester O’Halloran Bridge opened in 1987

We were there for a pint and a church.

This one called St Mary’s Cathedral. The third Mary so far 🙂
